Dr. Steven Nelson

Dr. Steven Nelson is a private practice oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Prairieville, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana State University for his undergraduate studies and received a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, Louisiana. In addition to graduating at the top of his dental school class, he was bestowed the Horace Wells Excellence in Dental Anesthesia Award, and the Excellence in Implant Dentistry Award. He was also inducted into the C. Edmund Kells and OKU Dental Honor Societies.

After dental school, Dr. Nelson completed a 6 year residency at LSU in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. As part of his residency, he received a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. During this time he completed a one-year general surgery internship at University Medical Center in New Orleans, including additional months of anesthesia training.

This extensive training allows Dr. Nelson to offer a wide variety of surgical procedures to his patients. He provides IV sedation and general anesthesia, wisdom tooth removal, dentoalveolar surgery, facial trauma surgery, TMJ surgery, and treatment of oral and facial pathology with subsequent reconstruction.

Dr. Nelson has a special interest in orthognathic surgery, bone grafting, soft tissue grafting, and dental implant surgery. Much of his practice is dedicated to full arch implant reconstruction, along with advanced remote anchorage techniques, including zygomatic and pterygoid implants. Dr. Nelson has taught several courses on this topic and also aided several clinicians with one-on-one mentoring.

Outside of work, Dr. Nelson loves spending time with his wife and their three children. He enjoys weightlifting, golfing, and traveling.
